Arrival

We made it! We arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand just after 6 p.m. local time, and were greeted by mild temperatures, a light breeze, and Bernd, a friendly driver from Euro Campers. Bernd welcomed us and handed over the keys to our lovely home for the next four weeks – a shiny, white, Toyota campervan!

The van looked quite nice – it has a couple of bench seats with a small table that all collapse down to form a full-size bed, a kitchen area containing a small sink, mini fridge, microwave, and two-burner propane stove, and a small bit of storage in cabinets as well as overhead. Everything seemed well-appointed, and we had some cookware, dinnerware, towels, and an unexpectedly plush bedding set. The burnt orange curtains hanging in the windows made the van feel exceptionally cozy, as they reminded me of those adorning Nana and Dar’s large picture window of their house in Keene.

Without further ado, I present our New Zealand home, in its roughly 50 square feet of glory! Here’s to a month of living under one small roof without driving each other bananas, of safe, manual transmission, left-side-of-the-road driving (yikes!), and of many spectacular views of the Kiwi countryside! Cheers!

  • I’m so happy things are going well, Jenn. I was a bit nervous last Sunday, but was hoping all would work out. Love reading your blog and your van is great. Looks like one Teng and Gundy have. Enjoy the trip, keep news and pictures coming and you both have an awesome time. Love, Auntie xoxo
